Egalitarismul - sau, rar, egalitarismul - este o tendință de gândire care favorizează egalitatea pentru toți oamenii. Doctrinele egalitare susțin că toți oamenii sunt egali în valoare fundamentală sau statut social, conform Enciclopediei de Filosofie Stanford. Conform dicționarului Merriam-Webster, termenul are două definiții distincte în limba engleză modernă. Se definește fie ca o doctrină politică că toți oamenii trebuie tratați ca fiind egali și având aceleași drepturi politice, economice, sociale, civile sau ca filosofie socială care pledează pentru eliminarea inegalităților economice în rândul oamenilor sau pentru descentralizarea puterii. Unele surse definesc egalitarismul ca punct de vedere conform căruia egalitatea reflectă starea naturală a umanității.
