clitic
În morfologie și sintaxă, o clitică este o morfemă care are caracteristici sintactice ale unui cuvânt, dar depinde în mod fonologic de un alt cuvânt sau de o expresie. Termenul derivă din greacă pentru "înclinare". Se pronunță ca o afix, dar joacă un rol sintactic la nivel de frază. Cu alte cuvinte, cliticele au forma de aplicații, dar distribuția cuvintelor funcționale. De exemplu, posesorul englezesc este o clitic în expresia regele calului Angliei: Seamănă cu un sufix, dar poziția sa la sfârșitul "regelui Angliei", mai degrabă decât pe "rege", este ca a unui cuvânt separat. Cliticile pot aparține oricărei categorii gramaticale, deși ele sunt în general pronume, determinanți sau admise. Rețineți că ortografia nu este întotdeauna un bun ghid pentru a distinge cliticii de aplicații: cliții pot fi scrise ca cuvinte separate, dar uneori sunt asociate cu cuvântul de care depind sau separat de caractere speciale, cum ar fi cratime sau apostrofuri.
