Ethos
Etos este un cuvânt grecesc care înseamnă "caracter" folosit pentru a descrie credințele sau idealurile orientative care caracterizează o comunitate, o națiune sau o ideologie. Grecii au folosit de asemenea acest cuvânt pentru a se referi la puterea muzicii de a influența emotiile, comportamentele și chiar moralitatea ascultătorului. Poveștile grecești timpurii despre Orfeu expun această idee într-un mod convingător. Folosirea cuvântului în retorică se bazează strâns pe terminologia greacă folosită de Aristotel în conceptul său de cele trei dovezi artistice.
