Cazul genitiv
În gramatică, genita (gen abreviat, numită și cazul posesiv sau cel de-al doilea caz) este cazul gramatical care marchează un substantiv ca modificând un alt substantiv. Este deseori un substantiv ca fiind posesor al unui alt substantiv; cu toate acestea, poate indica și alte relații decât posesia: anumite verbe pot lua argumente în cazul genitiv și pot avea utilizări adverbiale (a se vedea genitivul adverbial). Plasarea substantivului modificator în cazul genitiv este o modalitate de a indica faptul că două substantive sunt legate într-o construcție genitivă. Engleza modernă, de obicei, nu marchează morfologic substantive pentru un caz genitiv, pentru a indica o construcție genitivă; în schimb, utilizează fie clitic lui sau o preposition (de obicei de). Cu toate acestea, pronumele personale au forme distincte posesive. Există și alte modalități de a indica o construcție genitivă.
