Sticlă

Sticla este un material solid amorf care prezintă o tranziție de sticlă, care este tranziția reversibilă în materiale amorfe dintr-o stare tare și relativ fragilă într-o stare topită sau de tip cauciuc. Ochelarii sunt de obicei fragili și pot fi optic transparenți. Cel mai cunoscut tip de sticlă este sticla de sodă-sodă, care este compusă din aproximativ 75% dioxid de siliciu, oxid de sodiu din carbonat de sodiu, var și câțiva aditivi minori. Termenul de sticlă este adesea folosit pentru a se referi numai la acest material specific. Silicatul de sticlă are, în general, proprietatea de a fi transparent. Din acest motiv, are multe aplicații. Una dintre utilizările sale principale este ca material de construcție, în mod tradițional, ca niște geamuri mici așezate în deschideri de ferestre în ziduri, dar în secolul XX, de multe ori ca materialul de placaj major al multor clădiri mari. Deoarece sticla poate fi formată sau turnată în orice formă și pentru că este un produs steril, ea a fost folosită în mod tradițional pentru vase: vase, vase, sticle, borcane și ochelari.
