Halakha
Halakha sau Halocho este corpul colectiv al legilor religioase evreiești derivate din Tora scrisă și orală. Acesta include legea 613 mitzvot, ulterioară talmudică și rabinică și obiceiurile și tradițiile compuse în Aruchul Shulchan. Iudaismul nu face în mod clasic distincția în legile sale între viața religioasă și cea non-religioasă; Tradiția religioasă evreiască nu distinge în mod clar identitățile religioase, naționale, rasiale sau etnice. Halakha ghidează nu numai practici și credințe religioase, ci și numeroase aspecte ale vieții de zi cu zi. Halakha este adesea tradusă ca "lege evreiască", deși o traducere mai literală ar putea fi "calea" sau "modul de mers pe jos". Cuvântul derivă din rădăcină care înseamnă să meargă sau să meargă. Din punct de vedere istoric, în diaspora, halacha a servit numeroase comunități evreiești ca o cale de executare a legii civile și religioase. De la epoca iluminismului, emancipării și haskalahului în epoca modernă, cetățenii evrei nu sunt obligați la halakha decât prin consimțământul lor voluntar.
