Ascender (alpinism)
Un ascender este un dispozitiv mecanic folosit pentru a urca pe o funie. Un astfel de dispozitiv este un Jumar, numit după fabrica elvețiană, care a dezvoltat primul instrument de vânzare în 1958. Numele dispozitivului duce, de asemenea, la termenul Jumaring pentru procesul de utilizare a unui astfel de dispozitiv. Alți termeni pentru acest proces includ ascendent, prusiking și jugging. Ascendenții oferă funcționalități similare cu nodurile de frecare, dar sunt mai rapide și mai ușor de utilizat, deși cu consecințe în securitate. Un ascender utilizează o camă care permite dispozitivului să alunece liber într-o direcție și să asigure o prindere fermă pe coardă atunci când este tras în direcția opusă.
