Layshaft
Un arbore de lagăr este un arbore intermediar în cadrul unei cutii de viteze care transporta unelte, dar nu transferă transmisia primară a cutiei de viteze fie în interiorul, fie în afara cutiei de viteze. Layshafts sunt cel mai bine cunoscute prin utilizarea lor în cutiile de viteze ale mașinii, unde au fost o parte omniprezentă a aspectului transmisiilor pe roțile din spate. Odată cu trecerea la tracțiunea pe față, folosirea arborilor de deplasare este acum mai rară. "Arborele de acționare" poartă puterea de intrare în cutia de viteze. "Arborele acționat" este arborele de ieșire din cutia de viteze. În cutiile de viteze cu arbori cu arbore, aceste două arbori ies din capetele opuse ale cutiei de viteze, ceea ce este convenabil pentru autoturismele RWD, dar poate fi un dezavantaj pentru alte modele. Pentru cutiile de viteze, în general, grupurile de angrenaje montate pe un arbore de lagăr se pot orializa liber pe un arbore fix sau pot face parte dintr-un arbore care apoi se rotește în rulmenți. Pot exista mai multe clustere separate pe un arbore comun și acestea sunt permise să se rotească liber unul față de celălalt.
