Argumentul moderării este o eroare informală care afirmă că adevărul poate fi găsit ca un compromis între două poziții opuse. Această opoziție a falsei este dilema falsă. Vladimir Bukovski subliniază faptul că terenul de mijloc între Big Lie-ul propagandei sovietice și adevărul este o minciună și nu ar trebui să căutăm un mijloc de mijloc între dezinformare și informare. Potrivit lui, oamenii din civilizația pluralistă occidentală sunt mai predispuși la această eroare deoarece sunt obișnuiți să rezolve problemele prin compromisuri și acceptând interpretări alternative, spre deosebire de rușii care caută adevărul absolut. Un individ care operează în fallația falsă a compromisului consideră că pozițiile luate în considerare reprezintă extreme ale unui continuu de opinii și că astfel de extreme sunt întotdeauna greșite, iar terenul de mijloc este întotdeauna corect. Acest lucru nu este întotdeauna cazul. Uneori, numai X sau Y sunt acceptabile, fără posibilitate de mijloc.
