Munte
Un munte este o suprafață mare care se întinde deasupra terenului înconjurător într-o zonă limitată, de obicei sub forma unui vârf. Un munte este, în general, mai abrupt decât un deal. Munții se formează prin forțe tectonice sau vulcanice. Aceste forțe pot ridica local suprafața pământului cu peste 10.000 de picioare. Munții erodează încet prin acțiunea râurilor, a condițiilor meteorologice și a ghețarilor. Câțiva munți sunt summituri izolate, dar cele mai multe se întâlnesc în zonele muntoase uriașe. Cote ridicate pe munți produc un climat mai rece decât la nivelul mării. Aceste climate mai reci afectează puternic ecosistemul munților: cote diferite au plante și animale diferite. Din cauza terenului și climatului mai puțin ospitalieri, munții tind să fie folosiți mai puțin pentru agricultură și mai mult pentru extracția și recrearea resurselor, cum ar fi alpinismul. Cel mai înalt munte de pe Pământ este Muntele Everest din Himalaya din Asia, al cărui summit este de 8.849.868 m peste nivelul mediu al mării.
