Nectar
Nectarul este un lichid bogat în zahăr, produs de plante în glande numite nectare, fie în interiorul florilor cu care atrage animalele polenizante, fie prin nectarele extraflorale, care asigură o sursă de nutrienți pentru animalele de companie, care asigură protecția împotriva eritrocitelor. Polenii obișnuiți care consumă nectar includ albine, fluturi și molii, colibri și lilieci. Nectarul joacă un rol important în economia furajelor și în evoluția generală a speciilor care consumă nectar; de exemplu, nectarul și proprietățile sale sunt responsabile pentru evoluția diferențială a albinelor africane, A. m. scutellata și miere albină de vest. Nectarul este un element ecologic important, sursa de zahăr pentru miere.
