Ovul
Ovul înseamnă "ou mic". La plantele de semințe, ovulul este structura care dă naștere și conține celulele reproducătoare feminine. Este alcătuită din trei părți: Celulă care formează stratul exterior, nucleul și gametofita feminină în centrul său. Gametofita feminină, denumită în mod specific "megagametofită", este numită și sacul embrionar în angiospermele. Megagametofitul produce o celulă de ou în scopul fertilizării. După fertilizare, ovulul se dezvoltă într-o sămânță.
