Dreptul la azil
Dreptul de azil este un concept juridic vechi, în care o persoană persecutată de propria țară poate fi protejată de o altă autoritate suverană, de o țară străină sau de sanctuare de biserică. Acest drept își are rădăcinile într-o tradiție occidentală de lungă durată - deși a fost deja recunoscută de egipteni, greci și evrei; Descartes sa dus în Olanda, Voltaire în Anglia, Hobbes în Franța și fiecare stat a oferit protecție străinilor persecutați. Egiptenii, grecii și evreii au recunoscut un "drept de azil" religios, protejând într-o oarecare măsură pe infractori de acțiunile în justiție. Acest principiu a fost adoptat mai târziu de biserica creștină stabilită și au fost elaborate diverse reguli pentru a se califica pentru protecție și cât de multă protecție a fost ea. Potrivit Consiliului de la Orleans din 511, în prezența lui Clovis I, azilul a fost acordat oricui sa refugiat într-o biserică, în dependență sau în casa unui episcop. Această protecție a fost dată ucigașilor, hoților sau persoanelor acuzate de adulter. De asemenea, aceasta se referea la sclavi fugari, care, cu toate acestea, ar fi înapoiați proprietarilor atunci când proprietarii lor au jurat că Biblia nu ar fi rău.
