Corectitudinea politică este un termen care se referă la limbajul, ideile sau politicile impuse, care abordează discriminarea percepută împotriva grupurilor politice, sociale sau economice. Aceste grupuri includ printre altele cele definite prin sex, rasă, religie, etnie, orientare sexuală, vârstă și handicap. Din punct de vedere istoric, termenul era un colocvialism folosit de către comuniști și socialiști în dezbaterile politice de la începutul secolului al XX-lea până în mijlocul secolului al XX-lea, referindu-se peiorativ la "partidul" partidului comunist, care prevedea poziții "corecte" în multe chestiuni ale politicii. Termenul a fost adoptat în secolul al XX-lea de Noua Stânga, aplicat cu un anumit umor pentru a condamna comportamentul sexual sau rasist ca fiind "nerealist din punct de vedere politic". Până la începutul anilor 1990, termenul a fost adoptat de conservatorii americani drept termen peiorativ pentru toate încercările de promovare a politicii multiculturale și de identitate, în special a încercărilor de a introduce noi termeni care să încerce să lase în urmă bagajul discriminatoriu aparent atașat la cele mai vechi și invers , pentru a încerca să facă taboo mai vechi.
