Randomitatea înseamnă lipsa de model sau previzibilitatea evenimentelor. Randomitatea sugerează o neordonie sau o necoerență într-o succesiune de simboluri sau etape, astfel încât nu există un model sau o combinație inteligibilă. Aplicarea utilizată în știință, matematică și statistică recunoaște o lipsă de previzibilitate atunci când se face referire la aleatorie, dar admite regularități în evenimentele a căror rezultate nu sunt certe.
