O resursă este o sursă sau ofertă din care se produce beneficiul. Resursele tipice sunt materiale, servicii, personal sau alte active care sunt transformate pentru a produce beneficii și pot fi consumate sau indisponibile în procesul respectiv. Beneficiile utilizării resurselor pot include creșterea bogăției, satisfacerea nevoilor sau dorințelor, buna funcționare a unui sistem sau îmbunătățirea stării de bine. Din perspectivă umană, o resursă naturală este ceva obținut din mediul înconjurător pentru a satisface nevoile și dorințele oamenilor. Dintr-o perspectivă mai largă din punct de vedere biologic sau ecologic, o resursă satisface nevoile unui organism viu. Conceptul de resurse a fost aplicat în diverse domenii, inclusiv în ceea ce privește economia, biologia, informatica, managementul și resursele umane și este legat de conceptele de concurență, durabilitate, conservare și administrare. La aplicarea în cadrul societății umane, factorii comerciali sau necomerciali necesită alocarea resurselor prin gestionarea resurselor. Resursele au trei caracteristici principale: utilitate, disponibilitate limitată și potențial de epuizare sau de consum.
