Scabia, cunoscuta si colocvial ca mancarimea de sapte ani, este o infectie contagioasa a pielii provocata de Sarcoptes scabiei. Acarianul este un parazit mic, de obicei nevăzut, care se umflă sub pielea gazdei, care, în majoritatea oamenilor, provoacă o senzație intensă de mâncărime cauzată de un răspuns alergic. Infecția la alte animale decât la om este cauzată de o specie diferită, dar legată de acarieni, și se numește o mango sarcoptică. Scabia este clasificată de Organizația Mondială a Sănătății ca o boală asociată cu apa. Boala poate fi transmisă din obiecte, dar este cel mai adesea transmisă prin contact direct de la piele la piele, cu un risc mai mare de contact prelungit. Infecțiile inițiale necesită patru până la șase săptămâni pentru a deveni simptomatice. Reinfectarea, cu toate acestea, poate manifesta simptome în doar 24 de ore.
