Sturt petrel
Sturturile de furtună sunt păsări marine în familia Hydrobatidae, parte a ordinului Procellariiformes. Aceste cele mai mici dintre păsările marine se hrănesc cu crustacee planctonice și cu pești mici, extrași de pe suprafață, de obicei în timp ce plutesc. Zborul lor este fluturător și uneori asemănător bătăilor. Storm petrels au o distribuție cosmopolită, fiind găsită în toate oceanele. Acestea sunt strict pelagice, ajungând să aterizeze numai atunci când cresc. În cazul celor mai multe specii, se cunosc puține despre comportamentul și distribuția lor pe mare, unde acestea pot fi greu de găsit și mai greu de identificat. Sunt nesters colonial, prezentând o filozofie puternică coloniilor lor natale și siturilor de cuibărit. Cele mai multe specii cuibăresc în crevuri sau burrows și toate speciile, cu excepția unei specii, participă la coloniile de reproducere nocturnă. Perechile formează obligațiuni monogame pe termen lung și taxe de incubare și de hrană pentru pui. La fel ca multe specii de păsări marine, cuiburile sunt foarte prelungite cu incubație care durează până la 50 de zile și se desfășoară încă 70 de zile după aceea. Mai multe specii de furtună sunt amenințate de activitățile umane.
