Un adevăr gol este o afirmație care afirmă că toți membrii setului gol au o anumită proprietate. De exemplu, afirmația "toate telefoanele mobile din cameră sunt oprite" poate fi adevărată pur și simplu pentru că nu există telefoane mobile în cameră. În acest caz, afirmația "toate telefoanele mobile din cameră sunt activate" ar fi, de asemenea, adevărat și, în mod vacuos, așa cum ar fi conjuncția celor două: "toate telefoanele mobile din cameră sunt activate și dezactivate". Mai formal, o utilizare relativ bine definită se referă la o declarație condiționată cu un antecedent fals. Un exemplu al unei astfel de declarații este "dacă Ayers Rock este în Franța, atunci Turnul Eiffel este în Bolivia".
