Cabaletta, 19. yüzyıl İtalyan operasında özellikle arialar için tercih edilen iki parçalı müzik biçimini ve daha şarkıcı kantabili takiben daha animasyonlu bölümün ismini açıklar. Sıklıkla bir komplikasyon veya duygu ve / veya arsa yoğunlaştırması getirir. Bazı kaynaklar, sözcüğün İtalyan koboldan geldiğini öne sürüyor. Başka bir teori, İtalyan cavallo'dan kaynaklandığını ileri sürer, pek çok ünlü cabalettas'ın eşlik eden dörtnala atın ritmine atıfta bulunur. Cabaletta, 19. yüzyılın başlarından itibaren, tek bir yapı içerisinde farklı tempilerde iki karşıt bölüm içeren müzikal olarak farklı hareketlere sahip daha ayrıntılı arialara bir evrimin bir parçası olarak kuruldu. Bu terimin kendisi ilk kez 1826'da tanımlandı. İki basamaktan oluşan, tekrar eden bir yapıya sahip olan süslenmiş varyasyonlar izliyor. Kabin genellikle tipik olarak çok virtüozik olan bir coda ile bitiyor. Klasik örnekler Rossini'nin La Cenerentola'dan "Non più mesta", Bellini'nin puritani'den "ciel la luna'daki Vien diletto" ve Verdi'nin Il trovatore'undan "Di quella pira" nı içermektedir.
