Mathura (Aussprache (Hilfe · Info)) ist eine Stadt im nordindischen Bundesstaat Uttar Pradesh. Es liegt etwa 50 Kilometer nördlich von Agra und 145 Kilometer (90 Meilen) südöstlich von Delhi; Etwa 11 Kilometer von der Stadt Vrindavan und 22 Kilometer (14 mi) von Govardhan entfernt. Es ist das Verwaltungszentrum von Mathura Bezirk von Uttar Pradesh. Während der alten Zeit war Mathura ein Wirtschaftsdrehkreuz, das sich an der Kreuzung wichtiger Karawanenwege befand.
