In der Mathematik, speziell in der Topologie, ist eine Oberfläche eine zweidimensionale, topologische Mannigfaltigkeit. Die bekanntesten Beispiele sind diejenigen, die sich als die Grenzen der festen Objekte im gewöhnlichen dreidimensionalen euklidischen Raum R3 ergeben - zum Beispiel die Oberfläche eines Balles. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es Flächen, wie die Klein-Flasche, die nicht in dreidimensionalen euklidischen Raum eingebettet werden können, ohne Singularitäten oder Selbstkreuzungen einzuführen. Um zu sagen, dass eine Oberfläche "zweidimensional" ist, bedeutet, dass um jeden Punkt ein Koordinaten-Patch vorhanden ist, auf dem ein zweidimensionales Koordinatensystem definiert ist. Zum Beispiel ist die Oberfläche der Erde eine zweidimensionale Sphäre, und Breiten- und Längengrad liefert zweidimensionale Koordinaten darauf. Das Konzept der Oberfläche findet Anwendung in Physik, Technik, Computergrafik und vielen anderen Disziplinen, vor allem in der Darstellung der Oberflächen von physischen Objekten. Zum Beispiel ist bei der Analyse der aerodynamischen Eigenschaften eines Flugzeugs die zentrale Betrachtung der Luftstrom entlang seiner Oberfläche.
