Thirlage
Thirlage war das Gesetz in Bezug auf das Fräsen von Getreide für persönliche oder andere Verwendungen. Der Begriff Thirl entstand aus der feudalen Vergangenheit, als ein Thirl ein Leiblicher Diener, ein Halter oder ein Vasall zu einem Adligen oder Häuptling war. Der Begriff ist mit Carl austauschbar und zeigt die Unterwerfung des Feudalherrn und Feudalgesetze an; Die Situation ist nicht so weit von den Bedingungen der Sklaverei entfernt. Die Pflichten von Thirlage hörten schließlich auf, sich zu bewerben, aber in Schottland wurde erst am 28. November 2004 durch die Abschaffung der Feudal Tenure etc. Act 2000 offiziell und vollständig abgeschafft. Ähnliche Anforderungen bestanden und wurden in England aktiv erzwungen. Thirlage war das Feudalgesetz, durch das der Laird alle Vasallen zwingen konnte, die auf seinen Ländern lebten, um ihr Getreide in seine Mühle zu bringen, um geschliffen zu werden. Das Gesetz stellte sicher, dass alle Getreide, die die Vasallen produziert, gemessen und damit besteuert werden konnten.
