Chromatin

Chromatin is the material that makes up the chromosomes. It is a complex of DNA and specific proteins, of which about half are histones. The name comes from Greek chroma because chromatin can be stained with basic nuclear dyes. In the light microscope, it appears as a visible thread skeleton in the cell nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. In the functional sense, all that is found during the division of the nucleus in the chromosomes is considered as chromatin - except some structural proteins. Chromatin is an important structural component of the nucleus, along with the nucleoli, the nuclear base substance and the nuclear envelope. Chromatin consists of the DNA that is wrapped around the histone, as well as other proteins that attach to the DNA. DNA and histones form the nucleosomes, which are chained together. The nucleosomes are more tightly packed with the help of the non-histone proteins.
