Lakkolith

In geology, a lacakite is an upwardly bulging plutonic body with a largely flat underside. It consists of magma, which has been frozen at a small depth below the surface in the earth's crust, and has at least one depth channel leading into the depth, which is often column-shaped. The overburden rock was bulging because of the pressure of the superimposing rocks being lower than the pressure present in the melt so that lacakites are concordant to the secondary rock despite the bulging. The rock is of acidic to intermediate composition. The solidification depth lies between the magmatites on the surface and the magmatites in the depth, the plutonites. Apparitions of this kind belong to subvulcanism. A layered and plate-shaped pluton without bulging the overlapping layers is called Lagergang. If it is a lava mass frozen in the vent of a volcano, this is referred to as Schlot or Diatrema.
