The pairing parasites are a genus of parasitic suckingworms, which occur mainly in the tropics and subtropics. Up to now, 83 species are known worldwide. They were named as Bilharzia after Theodor Bilharz, today only the name Schistosoma is usual. It is often referred to as the Nileworm, but this would endemic.
