WHAT DOES FRACTAL MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Fractal

Figure 1a. The Mandelbrot set illustrates self-similarity. As the image is enlarged, the same pattern re-appears so that it is virtually impossible to determine the scale being examined. Figure 1b. The same fractal magnified six times. Figure 1c. The same fractal magnified a hundred times. Figure 1d. Even at a magnification of 2,000, the Mandelbrot set displays fine detail resembling the full set. A fractal is a natural phenomenon and a mathematical set. What they have in common is a repeating pattern that displays at every scale. If the replication is exactly the same at every scale, it is called a self-similar pattern.[1] Fractals can also be nearly the same at different levels. This latter pattern is illustrated in Figure 1.[2][3][4][5] Fractals also includes the idea of a detailed pattern that repeats itself.[2]:166; 18[3][6] Fractals are different from other geometric figures because of the complex ratio on which they scale. This ratio is called fractal dimensional scaling and it changes at the scale at which it is measured.
