Samah
Samah is a title given to Bajau tribes inhabiting the west coast of Sabah from Kudat to the interior of Sabah. However, the majority of Samah tribes are located in Kota Belud, Tuaran, Likas, Petagas, Putatan, Ketiau, Kinarut, Beringgis, Kawang, Pengalat Besar and Small Pengalat in Papar, Sabah. Basically, the Samah title is synonymous with the title of the Bajau. This tribe entered Borneo through the area of Belud and Kudat. According to historical facts, "Bajau" is the name of one of the Bugis warriors from Makassar. They have helped Johor attack the Netherlands. As a result, to this day there is a village of Bajau in the state of Johor. The Bajau then sailed through the coast of Borneo and opened their settlement early in the City of Belud before continuing the cruise to the south of the Philippines. In the Philippines these tribes have been named as "Badjau" by Marco Polo as a people who are proficient in marine life and live in boats. These people have reached the East Coast of Sabah and settled in Semporna, Tawau, Lahad Dato and Sandakan.
