Metahistory - a term used in modern historiography, can mean either conscious or unconscious objectivity, the duplication of historical myths. Sometimes the term is used as synonymous with the philosophy of history. In the last, XII volume A Study of History, 1960, Arnold Toynbee stated the need to define the word "metahistory". Toynbee assumes that it was created as an analogue of "metaphysics" by Aristotle. By analogy to the definition of metaphysics, Toynbee proposes to consider metahistoric research outside the field of history. Toynbee considered metahistory related to metaphysics and theology. Hayden White, in his work on the theory and history of Metahistory 1974, questioned historians and journalists who were able to present a faithful picture of the events they describe. Writers are the product of their times, views, imaginations, etc., which make the reality presented by them distorted.

Metahistoria - termin używany we współczesnej historiografii, oznaczać może świadome lub nieświadome nieobiektywne podejście do tematu, powielanie mitów historycznych. Czasami terminu używa się jako równoznacznego z filozofią historii. W ostatnim, XII tomie A Study of History - Studium historii, 1960 Arnold Toynbee stwierdził potrzebę zdefiniowania słowa "metahistoria". Toynbee przypuszcza, że zostało stworzone jako odpowiednik "metafizyki" Arystoteles.
