Moiras

In Greek mythology, the Moiras were the three sisters who determined the fate of both gods and human beings. They were three lugubrious women, responsible for fabricating, weaving and cutting what would be the thread of life for all individuals. During the work, the moiras make use of Wheel of Fortune, that is the loom used to weave the wires. The turns of the wheel position the individual's wire in its most privileged part or its least desirable part, thus explaining the periods of good or bad luck of all. The three goddesses decided the individual destiny of the ancient Greeks, and created Thêmis, Nemesis and the Erínias. They belonged to the first divine generation, and like Nix, they were tamer of goddesses and men. The Moiras were daughters of Nix. Moira, in the singular, was initially destiny. In the Iliad, it represented a law that hovered over gods and men, for neither was Zeus allowed to transgress it without interfering with cosmic harmony. In the Odyssey the spinners appear. The Greek myth prevailed among the Romans to such an extent that the names of the deities fell into disuse.
