búbă (búbe), s. f. – Umflătură, abces, buboi. Creație expresivă, cf. lat. *buba, de unde fr. bube, sp. bu(b)a, port. bouba și pe de altă parte, gr. βουβών (Diez, Gramm., I, 91), de unde gr. μπούμπα „larvă”, alb. bubë (Cihac, II, 640); cf. și bg., sb. buba „vierme de mătase”, rut. buba „umflătură”. Nu pare posibilă der. directă din lat., propusă de Koerting 1609, cf. Densusianu, Hlr., 365; nu este sigură nici der. din sl. propusă de DAR, datorită diferențelor semantice. Este mai probabil să fie vorba de creații spontane, care coincid în multe limbi în același timp, cf. fr. bobo. Der. abubă, s. f. (dalac, bubă-neagră); buba, vb. (a avea abcese; a se molipsi de vărsat); bubat, adj. (plin de bube, care are dalac; infectat); bubat, s. n. (vărsat); bubiță, s. f. (zgaibă; boală a cartofului); buboi, s. n. (furuncul); buboios, adj. (plin de bubă); buboșa (var. boboșa), vb. (a se umfla), pe care DAR îl leagă în mod eronat de boboș; buburos, adj. (bubos); buburoșa, vb. (a se scofîlci); bubuliță, s. f. (zgaibă, coș); buburuz (var. buburuză, buburez, buburuță), s. n. (cocoloș, bulgăre, grunz, orice masă rotundă mică; gărgăriță, Coccinella septempunctata), probabil derivat pe baza suf. -ză, cum sînt coacăză, pupăză (Densusianu, Bausteine, 478, îl consideră der. de la bumb); buburuzos, adj. (granulos); bobîlcă, s. f. (amigdalită), contaminare a lui bubă cu gîlcă; bubușlie, s. f. (boabă). După Candrea, Elementele, 407, sb. bubulijca, bubolica provine din rom. bubuliță. Întrucît rezultatele spontane coincid adesea, buburuză prezintă o analogie cu sp. burujo, sard. boborrissina „furnică” (Wagner 300).
