căscá (cásc, căscát), vb.1. A deschide gura. – 2. A deschide mult (gura, ochii etc.). – 3. A deschide gura mare, trădînd oboseală, plictiseală, somn. – Mr. cascu, (hascu), megl. casc, (hasc). Lat. *cascare, din gr. χάσϰω (Candrea, Rom., XXXI, 304; Meyer, Alb. St., IV, 123; Pușcariu 306; Candrea-Dens., 282; REW 1733; DAR); cf. sard. kaskare (Wagner 111), it. cascaggine. Este cuvînt general folosit (ALR, I, 86 și II, 23). Var. din mr. și megl. provine direct din ngr.Der. căscări, vb. (rar, a căsca 3); căscat, adj. (deschis, răscrăcănat; căscat, holbat); căscat, s. n. (faptul de a căsca); căscătură, s. f. (căscat); cascotă (var. cașcotă), s. f. (se spune atunci cînd nu există nimic de mîncare), formație umoristică, alcătuită cu ajutorul unui suf. care pare ngr.; căscăund, adj. (căscat, tont), formație curioasă, fără îndoială în loc de *căscăun, cu un suf. expresiv ca în bărzăun, gărgăun, și care se consideră nejustificat der. de la un lat. *cascabundus (Candrea, Rom., XXXI, 305; Tiktin; Pușcariu 307; Candrea-Dens., 283; REW 1732; Rosetti, I, 164).
