Meaning of "póznă" in the Romanian dictionary

DICTIONARY

ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD PÓZNĂ

póznă (pózne), s. f.1. Boroboață, trăsnaie. – 2. Belea, bucluc. Origine incertă. Pare legat de sl. poznanije „cunoștință”, dar evoluția semantică nu este clară. Alte explicații nu sînt mai bune: din sl. posmechŭ „rîs” (Cihac, II, 289); din germ. Posen „glume” (Tiktin; Scriban). – Der. poznaș, adj. (hazliu, glumeț; ștrengar; rar, ciudat; primejdios, periculos). Rut. pozna provine din rom.

Etymology is the study of the origin of words and their changes in structure and significance.
