Sufragio, franquicia política, o simplemente franquicia, distinta de otros derechos de voto, es el derecho al voto obtenido a través del proceso democrático. El derecho a postularse a la oficina se denomina a veces elegibilidad de candidato, y la combinación de ambos derechos a veces se denomina sufragio pleno. En muchos idiomas, el derecho a votar se denomina derecho activo de voto y el derecho a postularse se denomina derecho pasivo a votar. En inglés, a veces se les llama sufragio activo y sufragio pasivo. El sufragio se concibe a menudo en términos de elecciones para los representantes. Sin embargo, el sufragio se aplica por igual a las iniciativas y referendos. El sufragio no sólo describe el derecho legal de voto, sino también la cuestión práctica de si una cuestión se someterá a votación.
