Accipitrinae
L'Accipitrinae est la sous-famille des Accipitridae souvent connue sous le nom de «vrais» faucons, y compris tous les membres d'Accipiter et les genres étroitement liés Melierax, Urotriorchis, Erythrotriorchis et Megatriorchis. Le grand et répandu genre Accipiter comprend les oiseaux des oiseaux, les sparrowhawks, le Sharp-shinned Hawk et d'autres. Ce sont principalement des oiseaux de bois qui chassent par des éclairs soudains d'une perche dissimulée, de longues queues, de larges ailes et d'une forte acuité visuelle facilitant ce mode de vie. À la lumière de la recherche génétique récente, les cerfs-volants de la sous-famille traditionnelle Milvinae peuvent également appartenir à ce groupe. On croit que les Hawks, y compris les accipitrines, ont une vision à plusieurs reprises aussi forte que celle de l'espèce humaine, en partie à cause du grand nombre de cellules photoréceptrices dans leurs rétines, un nombre très élevé de nerfs reliant les récepteurs au cerveau et Une fovea indentée, qui magnifie la partie centrale du champ visuel.
