CAPTCHA
Un CAPTCHA est un type de test de réponse au défi utilisé dans le calcul pour déterminer si l'utilisateur est humain ou non. Le terme a été inventé en 2000 par Luis von Ahn, Manuel Blum, Nicholas J. Hopper de l'Université Carnegie Mellon et John Langford d'IBM. Le type le plus commun de CAPTCHA a d'abord été inventé par Mark D. Lillibridge, Martin Abadi, Krishna Bharat et Andrei Z. Broder. Cette forme de CAPTCHA exige que l'utilisateur tape les lettres d'une image déformée, parfois avec l'ajout d'une séquence obscure de lettres ou de chiffres qui s'affiche à l'écran. Étant donné que le test est administré par un ordinateur, contrairement au test de Turing standard administré par un humain, un CAPTCHA est parfois décrit comme un test Turing inversé. Ce terme est ambigu, car cela pourrait également signifier un test de Turing dans lequel les participants essayent tous deux de prouver qu'ils sont l'ordinateur. Cette procédure d'identification des utilisateurs a reçu de nombreuses critiques, en particulier des personnes handicapées, mais aussi d'autres personnes qui estiment que leur travail quotidien est ralenti par des mots déformés qui sont illisibles même pour les utilisateurs sans aucune incapacité.
