Dialecte
Le terme dialecte est utilisé de deux manières distinctes. Un usage - le plus commun chez les linguistes - se réfère à une variété de langue qui caractérise un groupe particulier de locuteurs de la langue. Le terme est appliqué le plus souvent aux modèles de parole régionaux, mais un dialecte peut aussi être défini par d'autres facteurs, comme la classe sociale. Un dialecte qui est associé à une classe sociale particulière peut être qualifié de sociolect, un dialecte associé à un groupe ethnique particulier peut être qualifié d'ethnolect, et un dialecte régional peut être qualifié de regiolect ou de topologie. Selon cette définition, toute variété de langue constitue un «dialecte», y compris les variétés standard. L'autre utilisation se réfère à une langue socialement subordonnée à une langue standard régionale ou nationale, souvent historiquement conforme à la norme, mais ne découle pas de celle-ci. En ce sens, la langue standard n'est pas elle-même considérée comme un dialecte.

It would be good if teachers could genuinely understand that black English is not mistakes, it's just different English, and that what you want to do is add an additional dialect to black students' repertoire rather than teaching them out of what's thought of as a bad habit, like sloppy posture or chewing with your mouth open.
