Dislocation
Dans la science des matériaux, une dislocation est un défaut cristallographique, ou une irrégularité, dans une structure cristalline. La présence de dislocations influence fortement de nombreuses propriétés des matériaux. La théorie décrivant les champs élastiques des défauts a été développée à l'origine par Vito Volterra en 1907, mais le terme «dislocation» pour désigner un défaut sur l'échelle atomique a été inventé par GI Taylor en 1934. Certains types de dislocations peuvent être visualisés comme étant Causée par la fin d'un plan d'atomes au milieu d'un cristal. Dans un tel cas, les plans environnants ne sont pas droites, mais ils se plient autour du bord du plan de terminaison afin que la structure cristalline soit parfaitement ordonnée de part et d'autre. L'analogie avec une pile de papier est apte: si un demi-morceau de papier est inséré dans une pile de papier, le défaut dans la pile ne se remarque qu'au bord de la demi-feuille. Il existe deux types principaux: les dislocations de bord et les dislocations de vis. Les dislocations mélangées sont intermédiaires entre celles-ci. Un bord-dislocation mathématiquement, les dislocations sont un type de défaut topologique, parfois appelé soliton.
