Hexamètre
Hexamètre est une ligne de vers métrique composée de six pieds. C'était le mètre épique standard dans la littérature classique grecque et latine, comme dans l'Iliade, l'Odyssée et l'Énée. Son utilisation dans d'autres genres de composition comprend les satires d'Horace, les métamorphoses d'Ovide et les Hymnes d'Orphée. Selon la mythologie grecque, l'hexamètre a été inventé par le dieu Hermès. Dans l'hexamètre classique, les six pieds suivent ces règles: ▪ Un pied peut être constitué de deux longues syllabes, une spondee; Ou une longue et deux syllabes courtes, un dactyle. ▪ Les quatre premiers pieds peuvent contenir l'un d'eux. ▪ Le cinquième est presque toujours un dactyle, et le dernier doit être un spondee. Une petite syllabe est une syllabe avec une voyelle courte et une consonne à la fin. Une longue syllabe est une syllabe qui a une voyelle longue, deux ou plusieurs consonnes à la fin, ou les deux. Cependant, les espaces entre les mots ne sont pas comptés, donc, par exemple, "chapeau" est normalement court, mais il est long dans "jet de chapeau", en raison du "th" dans le mot suivant. Dans Adonais de Shelley, la dernière ligne de chaque strophe est un hexamètre.
