Le ligament peut également se référer à: ▪ Le ligament péritonéale: un pli de péritoine ou d'autres membranes. ▪ Ligament du reste vestimentaire: les restes d'une structure tubulaire fœtale. ▪ Ligament parodontal: un groupe de fibres qui fixent le cément de dents à l'os alvéolaire environnant. L'étude des ligaments est connue sous le nom de desmologie. Les ligaments sont semblables aux tendons et aux fascia, car ils sont tous constitués de tissu conjonctif. Les différences existent dans les connexions qu'ils font; Les ligaments connectent un os à un autre os, les tendons relient le muscle à l'os et les fascia connectent les muscles à d'autres muscles. Ceux-ci sont tous trouvés dans le système squelettique du corps humain. Les ligaments ne peuvent généralement pas être régénérés naturellement, mais il existe des cellules souches du ligament parodontal situées à proximité du ligament parodontal qui sont impliqués dans la régénération adulte du ligament parodontal.
