Linsang
Linsangs est un nom initialement javanais appliqué à quatre espèces de mammifères carnivores vivant dans les arbres. Les deux espèces africaines appartiennent à la famille Viverridae, les deux espèces asiatiques appartiennent à la famille Prionodontidae. Les deux genres linsang étaient autrefois placés dans la sous-famille Viverrinae, avec plusieurs autres genres, mais des recherches récentes suggèrent que leurs relations réelles peuvent être quelque peu différentes. Les linsangs sont remarquables pour leur ressemblance morphologique avec les chats, la famille des felidés, qui est plus grande que dans les autres vivrides. Comme la relation entre les linsangs et les chats était plutôt distante, cela a été considéré comme un exemple d'évolution convergente. Cependant, l'analyse de l'ADN indique que, bien que les linsangs africains soient des vivres vrais étroitement liés aux génètes, les linsangs asiatiques ne sont pas et peuvent plutôt être les parents vivants les plus proches de la famille des Felides. Les similitudes entre les linsangs et les chats asiatiques sont donc plus susceptibles d'être attribuables à l'ascendance commune, alors que les similitudes entre les deux genres de linsangs doivent être convergentes.
