Pairie
Le peerage est un système juridique de titres largement héréditaires au Royaume-Uni, qui est constitué par les rangs de la noblesse britannique et fait partie du système des honneurs britanniques. Le terme est utilisé à la fois collectivement pour se référer à l'ensemble des titres nobles, et individuellement pour se référer à un titre spécifique. Le titulaire d'un peerage est appelé pair. Dans la pratique moderne, seuls les membres de la famille royale bénéficient de nouvelles paternités héréditaires. Seules les peerages de vie qui ont le droit personnel de s'asseoir et de voter à la Chambre des Lords sont généralement accordées pour honorer les individus dans la pratique moderne; Les dernières pères héréditaires non-royaux ont été créés dans le cadre du gouvernement Thatcher. Les peerages, comme tous les honneurs britanniques modernes, sont créés par le monarque britannique et entrent en vigueur lorsque les lettres patentes sont apposées avec le Grand Sceau du Royaume. Le gouvernement de Sa Majesté conseille le Souverain sur une nouvelle pétition, dans le cadre d'un processus qui scrute les nominations aux honneurs politiques.
