Proverbe

Un proverbe est un dicton simple et concret, populairement connu et répété, qui exprime une vérité basée sur le bon sens ou l'expérience pratique de l'humanité. Ils sont souvent métaphoriques. Un proverbe qui décrit une règle fondamentale de conduite peut également être connu comme une maxime. Les proverbes sont souvent empruntés à des langues et à des cultures semblables, et parfois se présentent au présent à travers plus d'une langue. La Bible et le latin médiéval ont joué un rôle considérable dans la distribution des proverbes à travers l'Europe. Mieder a conclu que les cultures qui traitent la Bible comme leur «livre spirituel majeur contiennent entre trois cent cinq cents proverbes issus de la Bible». Cependant, presque toutes les cultures ont des exemples de leurs propres proverbes.
