Usure
L'usure est la pratique de faire des prêts monétaires non éthiques ou immoraux destinés à enrichir injustement le prêteur. Un prêt peut être considéré comme usuel en raison de taux d'intérêt excessifs ou abusifs ou d'autres facteurs, mais selon certains dictionnaires, il suffit de facturer tout intérêt peut être considéré comme une usure. Quelqu'un qui charge l'usure peut être appelé un usurier, mais le terme le plus commun en anglais est le prêt de requin. Le terme peut être utilisé au sens moral, en condamnant en profitant des malheurs d'autrui ou dans un sens juridique où les taux d'intérêt peuvent être réglementés par la loi. Historiquement, certaines cultures ont considéré que l'intérêt pour les prêts était aussi pécheur. Certaines des premières condamnations connues de l'usure proviennent des textes védiques de l'Inde. Des condamnations semblables se retrouvent dans les textes religieux du bouddhisme, du judaïsme, du christianisme et de l'islam. Parfois, de nombreuses nations, de la Chine ancienne à la Grèce antique à la Rome antique, ont interdit de prêts avec intérêt. Bien que l'Empire romain ait fini par accorder des prêts avec des taux d'intérêt soigneusement restreints, l'église chrétienne de l'Europe médiévale interdit d'imposer des intérêts en tout cas.
