En tant que bijoux, le jade est en fait constitué de deux types de pierres comprenant différents minéraux silicatés. Jed Nephrite est composé de minéraux actinolites, amphiboles riches en calcium et en magnésium. La pierre connue sous le nom de jadéite est constituée presque entièrement de jadéite, de pyroxène riche en sodium et en aluminium.
