O gato-de-pallas, também conhecido como Manul, é um pequeno gato selvagem da Ásia Central, vivendo em países como Mongólia e Rússia. O seu nome vulgar é derivado do nome do seu autor, Peter Simon Pallas. Eles são mais ou menos do tamanho de um gato doméstico,tendo entre 50 a 62 cm, pesam em média 4,5 kg. São baixos e atarracados, rechonchudos e têm pernas curtas. Sua pelagem é cinzenta, mas pode também ser em tons de ferrugem. Tem pontos pretos na cabeça, e listras pretas nas costas e focinho. É um felino solitário, de hábitos noturnos e arisco com humanos. Come pequenos roedores e também pássaros, caçados pelo método da emboscada. Sua gestação dura entre 66 e 75 dias, e podem nascer até seis gatinhos por ninhada. Podem viver cerca de 11 anos em cativeiro, um tempo mais curto que o do gato doméstico. O gato-de-pallas é uma espécie em extinção, pois era caçado para ser vendido como animal de estimação e a sua pele era comercializada. Agora isso é proibido, exceto na Mongólia. Mesmo assim, muitos caçadores ilegais continuam desrespeitando a lei e vendendo peles de Manuls.
