Argot
Um argot é uma linguagem secreta usada por vários grupos - e. colegas de escola, fora da lei, colegas, entre muitos outros - para evitar que os estrangeiros compreendam suas conversas. O termo argot também é usado para se referir ao vocabulário informal especializado de um determinado campo de estudo, ocupação ou hobby, em que sentido ele se sobrepõe com o jargão. O autor Victor Hugo foi um dos primeiros a pesquisar extensivamente. Ele descreve isso em seu romance de 1862, Les Misérables, como a linguagem do escuro; em um ponto, ele diz: "O que é argot, propriamente falando? Argot é o idioma da miséria". O primeiro registro conhecido de argot estava em um documento de 1628. A palavra provavelmente derivava do nome contemporâneo, les argotiers, dado a um grupo de ladrões naquela época. Sob a definição mais estrita, um argot é uma linguagem apropriada, com sua própria gramática e estilo. Mas tais línguas secretas completas são raras, porque os falantes costumam ter alguma linguagem pública em comum, na qual o argot se baseia em grande parte.
