Meandro
Um meandro, em geral, é uma curva em um sinuoso curso de água ou rio. Um meandro se forma ao mover a água em uma corrente erosiona os bancos externos e amplia seu vale, e a parte interna do rio tem menos energia e deposita limo. Um fluxo de qualquer volume pode assumir um curso sinuoso, alternando os sedimentos alternadamente do lado de fora de uma curva e depositando-os no interior. O resultado é um padrão de serpenteio enquanto o fluxo serpenteia para frente e para trás em todo o seu eixo do vale. Quando um meandro é cortado do fluxo principal, um lago oxbow se forma. Ao longo do tempo, os meandros migram para a jusante, às vezes em tão pouco tempo que criam problemas de engenharia civil para municípios locais tentando manter estradas e pontes estáveis.
