Palavra
Na linguística, uma palavra é o elemento mais pequeno que pode ser proferido de forma isolada com conteúdo semântico ou pragmático. Isso contrasta com um morfema, que é a menor unidade de significado, mas não se mantém por conta própria. Uma palavra pode consistir em um único morfema, ou vários, enquanto que um morfema pode não se manter sozinho como uma palavra. Uma palavra complexa geralmente inclui uma raiz e um ou mais afixos, ou mais de uma raiz em um composto. As palavras podem ser juntas para construir elementos maiores de linguagem, como frases, cláusulas e frases. O termo palavra pode se referir a uma palavra falada ou a uma palavra escrita, ou às vezes ao conceito abstrato por trás de qualquer uma. As palavras faladas são compostas por unidades de som chamadas fonemas e palavras escritas de símbolos chamados grafemas, como as letras do alfabeto inglês.
