Zander
Zander é uma espécie de peixe de habitats de água doce e salgados na Eurásia ocidental. Está intimamente relacionado com o poleiro. Zander são muitas vezes chamados de pique-perca como eles se assemelham ao pique com seu corpo alongado e cabeça, e a perca com sua barbatana dorsal espinhosa. Zander não é, como se costuma acreditar, um híbrido de pique e perca. Na Europa, uma segunda espécie é limitada a rios no sul da Rússia e na bacia do Danúbio. Essas duas espécies são suspeitas de hibridar ocasionalmente, onde são simpáticas, pois produzem híbridos férteis em cativeiro; ainda não são conhecidos híbridos naturais e, embora aparentemente sejam difíceis de detectar, é suspeito que as espécies estejam separadas por forte isolamento prezygotico. Assemelha-se fortemente, tanto em aparência quanto em gosto, o walleye americano intimamente relacionado. O zander é um peixe comum e popular na Europa. Muitas vezes é comido, e pode atingir 20 kg de peso, embora as capturas típicas sejam consideravelmente menores. Zander atinge um comprimento médio de 40-80 cm com um comprimento máximo de 120 cm. Zander não é indígena do Reino Unido, mas foi introduzida nos fens anglicanos do leste no século 20 e se espalhou rapidamente.
